(Note: these apply to wireless networks also)- If you don’t need to share printers and files across your
network, turn off “File and Printer Sharing”. - Start/Control Panel/Network Connections
- Right click Local Area Connection and select Properties
- Clear the check mark next to File and Printer Sharing for
Microsoft Networks - Click OK
- If you don’t need to share printers and files across your
- Disable the Server service on each computer as this will prevent
the automatic creation of administrative hidden shares.- Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services
- Scroll down until you find “Server”
- Double click to open the Server Properties window
- Using the dropdown, change Startup type to “Disabled”
- Click OK
- Close the Services window
- Do not use the same name and password for the local
administrator accounts.- Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
- Open the Administrator account
- Change the Password
