- Secure your wireless network
Step 3
- Secure your wired network (Note: these apply to wireless networks also)
- If you don't need to share printers and files across your network, turn off "File and Printer Sharing".
- Start/Control Panel/Network Connections
- Right click Local Area Connection and select Properties
- Clear the check mark next to File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
- Click OK
Step 4
- Disable the Server service on each computer as this will prevent the automatic creation of administrative hidden shares.
- Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services
- Scroll down until you find "Server"
- Double click to open the Server Properties window
- Using the dropdown, change Startup type to "Disabled"
- Click OK
- Close the Services window
Step 5
- Do not use the same name and password for the local administrator accounts.
- Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
- Open the Administrator account
- Change the Password
